Acute Medication
“Acute medications are treatments taken at the onset of an illness to reduce the symptoms associated with the illness.”
Please note that in order for your claim to be approved the acute medication scripted by the doctor must be on the GetSavvi Formulary
There are 2 ways to claim for medication, namely:
1) Dispensing Doctor - If you consult a dispensing practitioner (doctor) on the network, you will be issued with your medication in your visit.
2) Non-dispensing Doctor - If you consult a non-dispensing practitioner on the network, you will be issued with a script which you can take to any Mediscor (Medi-rite, Dischem) or Clicks pharmacy. The medication will be provided to you based on the GetSavvi Formulary.
The acute medication benefit at pharmacies is limited to R 1 100 per family per year. It is also important to note that this benefit is not available for “over the counter” (OTC) purchases. It is limited to only prescribed medication subject to a formulary.
Medication prescribed by a dental practice will not be covered.
